Metro Kids, a Washington, DC based non-profit teaching children ages Pre-K through 5th grade, wanted a simple promotional video about an upcoming event celebrating 5th graders graduating to 6th grade. They would then use this video to disseminate in communications to parents. After several brainstorming sessions we settled on two potential titles for the event: Nexus or Level Up.
Nexus: a connection or link between things, persons, or events especially that is or is part of a chain of causation.
Level Up: a phrase which means to advance or improve (oneself, someone else, or something) in or as if in a game.
After exploring designs for the two titles, the client decided on Level Up because of its cultural relevance and easy application. They also loved my pitch for a retro video game theme that would appeal to their target audience, the parents.
After development and delivery of the promotional short video, Metro Kids was thrilled with the implementation of the theme into the video, and soon after began circulating it with great success. This was an incredibly fun project that allowed referencing from my own childhood and pouring much of my love for the 90s aesthetics into my work.
